Lisandro Martinez may have only been a Manchester United player for less than two months, but he has already been on a very individual journey.
Signed for £55million from Ajax this summer, the Argentine arrived at Old Trafford with a point to prove straight off the bat. Reports had subsequently revealed that United’s recruitment team had identified Pau Torres as the club’s top defensive target, with Erik ten Hag pushing for Martinez.
The new manager ultimately won out and the versatile defender became one of the marquee signings of a pivotal summer window. But with a hefty fee round his neck and some indifferent early performances, the vultures were quickly circling.
