Lisa Snowdon opens up on heartbreak of suffering miscarriage while she was presenting live radio show

Model, radio and television presenter Lisa Snowdon appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday, May 23, to discuss her brand new book Just Getting Started, and during her interview with the 63-year-old Scottish host, she revealed the devastating moment, as detailed in her book, she realised she was having a miscarriage live on air.

The 51-year-old, who has been an avid campaigner on the menopause since being diagnosed with it in her early 40s - read more on that here - opens up in her new book about her own personal struggles with not just the condition and getting older but fertility, relationships and body image.

A synopsis defines it as "the new menopause guide for 2023 to help you cope with signs, symptoms and everything else to improve your life". It adds that Lisa "guides you through every issue she herself faced, from dealing with weight gain, fighting her hormones, reigniting her sex life and finding a renewed sense of self-love".

Describing just some of what the former top model writes about in the book, Lorraine recalled a devastating loss Lisa experienced and said: "Lisa, a lot of people look at people on TV, they're going, 'they live their best lives' and, a lot of times we are. But a lot of times we aren't. You had a miscarriage actually on radio?"

"I was on breakfast radio," Lisa said. "I just went to the bathroom and I was bleeding. I was like, 'Oh gosh', and it was at the beginning of the show and I just thought I have to keep going. So yeah.

"I've never spoken about that ever before but I know that a lot of women have struggled with fertility. A lot of women still really struggle with coming to terms with the fact they are not mums. But there is hope. Because you do have to look at the things you do have and have that sense of gratitude and appreciation for the love you have in your life. I'm lucky I have nieces and nephews. I'm really lucky."

Earlier in the interview, Lisa, who has been open about her issues with fertility and conceiving naturally, also revealed how she'd undergone an abortion after falling pregnant in a toxic relationship.

Lorraine said: "You're very honest [in the book]. You had an abortion. That's a thing that nobody ever does lightly. You were in a terribly toxic relationship. Understandably, you didn't want to bring another life into that."

"That's exactly right. I knew in my heart that that wasn't the right relationship. environment, to bring a child into. So I did make that decision. Sometimes I look back and I think 'What if?' but I still stand by that decision because I didn't want to be attached to that person for the rest of my life. And have to explain to the baby why I wasn't with the father."

Speaking about the relationship, Lorraine added: "Because it was bad. It was really bad. It was terrible. I had no idea that you went through that. It's hideous. And you've emerged. The best victory is living a good life."
