Lisa Marie Presley's final Instagram post before her death was about her grief surrounding her late son's tragic death. The only child of Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley passed away on Thursday at the age of 54 after suffering from a cardiac arrest.
Her heartbroken mother shared the news and paid tribute to her "strong and loving daughter" in a moving statement, the Mirror reports. She wrote: "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.
"She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."
While the American singer-songwriter was not particularly active on the social media platform, in her last two posts she opened up about the struggles she went through following the death of her son, Benjamin. Her closing post showed an article from an interview with People for National Grief Awareness Day.
The mother-of-four shared a screenshot of the piece titled 'Lisa Marie Presley Says She Was 'Destroyed' by Son Benjamin's Death but Keeps 'Going for My Girls'. Lisa Marie captioned it: "Hi. In honor of it being National Grief Awareness Day, I wrote an essay about Grief which was posted today on @people . I thought I’d post it here in the hopes that anyone who needs to hear all of this it helps in some way."
In the emotional post, the King of Rock and Roll's only child opened up about Benjamin's death, as she talked about what his suicide has taught her.
She wrote: "This is not a comfortable subject for anyone, and it is most unpopular to talk about. But if we're going [to] make any progress on the subject, grief has to get talked about.
"Death is part of life whether we like it or not — and so is grieving. Grief does not stop or go away in any sense, a year, or years after the loss. Grief is something you will have to carry with you for the rest of your life, in spite of what certain people or our culture wants us to believe. You do not 'get over it', you do not 'move on', period."
She admitted she "beat myself up tirelessly" and blamed herself for his passing but said it's important that people in need are able to lean on others for support. Her post came just over a month after she'd shared a touching image with her 572k followers of her and her son's symbolic matching foot tattoos.
The star revealed: "Several years ago, on Mother's Day, my son and I got these matching tattoos on our feet. It’s a Celtic eternity knot. Symbolizing that we will be connected eternally. We carefully picked it to represent our eternal love and our eternal bond."
She concluded her post with a broken heart and sad face emoji.
