East Kilbride MP Dr Lisa Cameron's work championing underrepresented communities has earned her the SNP MP of the Year Award.
The prestigious gong, from diversity and inclusion charity Patchwork Foundation, commended the East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP for her work tackling the abuse faced by women in public and political life.
On top of this Dr Cameron has raised awareness of food insecurity, loneliness, and mental health challenges during the COVID pandemic and has been an advocate for disability rights and making politics more accessible for disabled people.
Celebrating the news, Dr Cameron said: “I am delighted to have received this award.
"This award is a testament to the importance of the work I am doing as chairwoman of the APPG on disability.
"There are over 14m people with disabilities across the UK, and it is crucial their voices are represented in Parliament, and it has been my pleasure to do so over the last seven years."
The ninth annual prizegiving ceremony was held in Speaker's House on Wednesday (March 16) and presented by Patchwork Patron, Mr Speaker, Rt Hon Sir Lindsay Hoyle MP.
The Patchwork Foundation’s annual MP of the Year Awards celebrate the MPs who have actively worked with underrepresented and disadvantaged communities across the UK over the previous 12 months.
The MPs are nominated by the public, with winners being selected by an independent panel of judges.
Rt Hon Ian Blackford MP, leader of the SNP in the Commons, said: “Lisa has been working tirelessly on the issues of loneliness and mental health during the pandemic and brings particular expertise to this area from her background as a clinical psychologist.
"As well as her role as disability spokesperson for the SNP Westminster Group, Lisa is also extremely active in her stewardship of numerous APPGs, including as chairwoman of the all-party Parliamentary health group and chairwoman of the APPG for disabilities.
"I am delighted for Lisa that her hard work is being recognised.”
