Victor Wembanyama isn’t your typical rookie — in case the smooth skillset packed into a 7-foot-4 frame didn’t tell you that already.
But what’s also becoming apparent is how different the 19-year-old is in how he carries himself, and he showed that to veteran Dennis Schroder during Sunday’s game between the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors.
After Wembanyama fell on the ground, Schroder tried to help the big man up only for his help to apparently have been rejected. Leaked audio of the exchange caught Schroder telling Wembanyama, “I was trying to help you out.” And though the rookie’s response is hard to make out in the video, lip readers think he said something you’d expect from someone much more established in the league.
“I don’t need your help.”
Schroder: “I was trying to help you out”
Wemby: “I don’t need your help”

If that’s the attitude Wembanyama is playing with, he’s going to be even tougher for teams to handle than we thought.
