Going into this season, we all knew the expectations were high for Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch. We may only be through two games this season but we may need to set the bar higher for Branch.
Through those two games, he’s off to a great start with 13 tackles, one tackle for loss, five pass deflections and an interception. Last season, Branch only played in 15 games but he started in 9 of those games. That led to 74 tackles, three interceptions and 13 pass deflections.
Through two weeks of play in the NFL, Lions DB Brian Branch leads the league in pass deflections with five of them. Becoming one hell of a player for the Detroit Lions. #OnePride pic.twitter.com/2PEAuT97cD

Currently, the five pass deflections from Branch leads the NFL. With his current pace of 2.5 pass deflections per game, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him shatter the production he had as a rookie. With that, he should reach double digit totals for pass deflections this season but this could also lead to an increase with interceptions.
When watching Branch and the Lions defense, you’ll notice that he’s the chess piece for the defense. Whether he’s aligned in the slot, single high or in the box, you have to keep your eyes on him at all times. He plays with great intensity, fluidity and has a knack for being around the football. Look for his strong start to the 2024 season to continue this Sunday as the Lions travel to Arizona to play the Cardinals.
