Lions outlast Chargers on last-second field goal by Riley Patterson

Dan Campbell gambled and won.

The Detroit Lions coach passed up an earlier field goal to for it on fourth down.

The Lions converted, ate up the rest of the clock and then had Riley Patterson kick a 41-yard field goal on Sunday at SoFi to down the Chargers, 41-38.

It was a wild game that saw each team score in every quarter.

Jared Goff threw for 333 yards and a pair of TDs. Chargers QB Justin Herbert went for 323 yards and 4 TDs.

David Montgomery of the Lions had 116 yards rushing, including a 75-yard touchdown run, which was the longest by a Detroit player since 2011.

The Lions improve to 7-2 while the Chargers sink to 4-5.
