Midway through the second quarter of the Week 14 game in Chicago, Lions rookie tight end Sam LaPorta hauled in a 13-yard reception. That catch pushed LaPorta over the 700-yard mark for the season and it also pushed the Lions into the NFL record book.
LaPorta and RB Jahmyr Gibbs became the first rookie tandem from those positions in NFL history to each gain 700 yards in a season. Gibbs also eclipsed the 700-yard mark earlier in the game with a 36-yard run.
Impressively, the dynamic Detroit duo pulled it off with over four games left to play.
For the first time in #NFL history, a team has had a rookie RB and rookie TE each produce 700+ scrimmage yards in a single season.#OnePride pic.twitter.com/4RxsV7gorS
