One of the ways the Detroit Lions can fill the gaping hole at quarterback behind starter Jared Goff is by using a later-round draft pick on a prospect with some upside. Purdue’s Aidan O’Connell fits that bill.
The Lions were at the Boilermakers pro day on Thursday to check out O’Connell, tight end Payne Durham and other prospects. All 32 teams were present at the indoor training facility in West Lafayette, Indiana.
Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network notes that the Lions showed some extra attention on O’Connell, who is generally projected as a Day 3 talent. Per Pauline, the Lions met with O’Connell after the pro day. The team had previously met with the 24-year-old passer at the Shrine Bowl and informally at the NFL Scouting Combine.
