Winning does wonders for a team’s confidence. It also inspires more confidence from the analysts who cover the games and the league, and that’s reflected in where the Detroit Lions sit in NFL power rankings following the Week 2 win over the Washington Commanders.
Detroit surged up several spots in every power poll. The 1-1 Lions are now comfortably out of the bottom tier in every ranking.
There is nobody more bullish on Dan Campbell’s Lions than USA TODAY, where analyst Nate Davis has Detroit ranked 14th. Davis cited the prolific offense with a fun quip,
They’ve scored at least 35 points in three consecutive games for the first time since 1952, a year before owner Sheila Ford Hamp was born.
At Touchdown Wire, the Lions roared up from 26th to No. 20, one spot ahead of the Commanders.
The Lions don’t have big names per se on their offense, but their scheme provides ways to maximize the talent they have. Amon Ra St. Brown had nine catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns along with two carries for 68 yards. The Lions are embodying coach Dan Campbell’s attitude and are becoming a team that can’t be overlooked.
ESPN also elevated the Lions to No. 20 after starting Week 2 at No. 27. At Sporting News, Detroit rose from 27th to 21st. Even the New York Post, which had the Lions 31st after Week 1, saw enough to lift the team to 24th.
