Lionesses set to triumph as 2023 Women’s Football Awards shortlist revealed

Several Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham stars have received nominations for next month's Women's Football Awards.

The flagship ceremony will take place at London’s exclusive Nobu Hotel on May 25 and will be hosted by former England international and Chelsea star Eni Aluko, as well as Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher. The event, supported by SHEIN, will celebrate the people, brands and organisations who are contributing to the phenomenal growth of the women's game.

In contention for the highly anticipated Player of the Year category is Arsenal duo Beth Mead and Leah Williamson. Chelsea stars Sam Kerr and Millie Bright have also been nominated.

Chelsea's Pernille Harder and Arsenal's Vivianne Miedema have been shortlisted for the International Player of the Year prize, while Declan Rice, Reece James, Rob Holding and Harry Kane are in the running for Male Football Ally for their work to promote women’s football. Lauren James has been recognised in the Young Football Player of the Year category alongside Spurs' Asmita Ale.

West Ham's Player Development Pathway, as well as Tottenham's Female Talent Pathway, are in contention for the Grassroots Initiative of the Year. Emma Hayes and Arsenal legend Ian Wright are both up for the Women’s Football Champion of the Year award.

Aluko, who will be hosting the event on May 25, said: "The Women’s Football Awards is a night of real celebration and an important platform to recognise the key players and allies both on and off the pitch who have raised the bar for women’s football.

"This is an incredible shortlist with so many amazing players, brands, media personalities and organisations featured. The public have voted in their thousands and each category will be tightly contested. It is a real honour to be presenting these awards.”

Co-host Carragher added: “The shortlist features some of the best and most outstanding talent in women's football today. There are some fantastic players on this list who are achieving so much in the sport. It is also great to see male football allies recognised as well as other individuals and organisations who are playing their part to grow women's football. It is going to be a fantastic event.”
