Eight current Lionesses have been nominated for Player of the Year at the inaugural Women's Football Awards in May.
Beth Mead, England captain Leah Williamson and Mary Earps are all up for the leading gong, sponsored by Klarna, at the new ceremony. Other Euro 2022 winners Alessia Russo, Millie Bright, Rachel Daly, Lauren Hemp and Chloe Kelly are also nominated, as are leading WSL international stars Sam Kerr and Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw.
The event, which will be co-hosted by former England star Eni Aluko and Liverpool men's legend Jamie Carragher, will celebrate the achievements of women in football across all levels and recognise the people, brands and organisations who are contributing to the incredible growth of the game. Real Madrid and Scotland forward Caroline Weir will also be on the judging panel alongside Everton star Conor Coady and Sky Sports News anchors Pete Graves and Hayley McQueen.
The shortlist releases also revealed that Tottenham hero Harry Kane, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson and West Ham star Declan Rice are in the running for Male Football Ally, an award to recognise a for their work to promote women’s football. Ian Wright, who is a regular pundit on BBC and ITV coverage of the Lionesses is also nominated for an award
In addition, Manchester United, Manchester City, Brighton and Hove Albion, Chelsea and Arsenal are all vying for Best Club of the Year. The event, which is sponsored by global retailer SHEIN, will take place at London’s exclusive Nobu Hotel on May 25.
Co-host Carragher said: "The shortlist features some of the best and most outstanding talent in women's football today. There are some fantastic players on this list who are achieving so much in the sport.
"It is also great to see male football allies recognised as well as other individuals and organisations who are playing their part to grow women's football. It is going to be a fantastic event."
