Danny Mills has claimed that Lionel Messi would not get into Liverpool's strongest side - or any other team in the Premier League's top six.
Mills, the former Leeds United, Manchester City and England defender, would not disagree. But he still believes Messi would struggle to get into the line-ups of Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 35-year-old endured a difficult debut campaign at PSG, scoring just 11 goals in all competitions following his sensational switch from Barcelona in the summer of 2021. The seven-time Ballon d'Or winner had previously been linked with a move to Man City, who are managed by his former Barca boss Pep Guardiola.

And speaking about whether a top Premier League team would take Messi now, Mills said: "I think he is the greatest footballer I have ever seen. I didn't see Cruyff live, I didn't see Maradona. Messi is the greatest footballer I have ever seen.
"I know Ronaldo' s numbers may be slightly better and he's more of a big game player and all of the rest of it, but, in terms of a pure footballer, Messi is the greatest. But, would you take Messi now in your team? Probably not.
"We're talking Premier League aren't we realistically. Liverpool wouldn't take him, City wouldn't take him. Tottenham wouldn't take him, no I don't think they would."
