Lionel Messi has admitted Argentina "messed up" in their shock World Cup defeat against Saudi Arabia and their competition hopes are already on the line.
Messi opened the scoring for the South American nation from the penalty spot after a highly contentious spot-kick decision before Argentina had the ball in the net three more times – but on each occasion saw their celebrations cut short by offside decisions.
Quickfire goals from Salah Al-Shehri and Salem Al-Dawsari at the start of the second half turned the game on its head as Saudi Arabia scored with each of their only two shots on target throughout the match and Argentina entirely lost their composure.
