Inter Miami's Lionel Messi has been named Major League Soccer Player of the Month for April after showcasing exceptional form following his return from injury. The Argentina international had missed four games due to a hamstring issue before making a comeback on April 6.
Since his return, Messi, aged 36, has been in scintillating form, contributing six goals and four assists in just four games, which led to him clinching his first MLS Player of the Month award. Miami coach Gerardo 'Tata' Martino expressed his lack of surprise at Messi's outstanding performances.
Speaking ahead of Miami's upcoming MLS clash against the New York Red Bulls, Martino praised Messi, stating, 'Messi can move everywhere on the pitch, he is the best footballer in the world and a great goalscorer.' Martino also attributed Messi's resurgence to the reduced frequency of matches, allowing the star player to regain his top form.
Inter Miami is currently enjoying a four-game unbeaten streak and sits atop the Eastern Conference table with 21 points from 11 games. Messi's impact on the team has been significant, propelling Miami to a strong position in the league standings.
