Lionel Messi has taken MLS by storm, as the forward has tallied at least one goal in each of his first six games for Inter Miami, totaling nine goals altogether. The immediate impact by the all-time great makes him seem superhuman, which is fitting since he has been celebrating every home goal with a superhero gesture.
Messi revealed the backstory behind his celebrations, saying that they are for his kids as they watch superhero movies together.
“My three kids are still on vacation, have not started school yet, so every night we watch Marvel superhero movies,” he said, via The Miami Herald. “They came up with the idea, I had a game the next day, and they asked that whenever I have a game and score a goal, I do a Marvel superhero celebration.”
The 36-year-old added that each celebration comes from whichever movie that he just watched with his family.
However, Messi only does these celebrations when at home in Miami, as he explained that they are really only meant for his family.
“I only do them for home games, when the kids are here, near me, so we can share those moments,” Messi said, via Bleacher Report.
Messi may be the best soccer player in the world, but he’s also relatable by trying to be a good dad every day.
