Linwood former squaddie punched sister and told girl, five, to 'man the f*** up'

A former squaddie who punched his sister was branded 'disgraceful' by a sheriff.

Marc McKenzie turned on Janette McKenzie at their mother's home in Sandyhills, on January 25, 2019. The 34-year-old, of Linwood, Renfrewshire, lashed out after being pulled up by Jannette for shouting at a five-year-old girl.

The victim later required surgery to fix a bump on her nose as a result of the punch.

McKenzie pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to assaulting Janette to her severe injury. He also admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

The court heard McKenzie was being loud and winding up children on the day of the incident.

He shouted in the face of a five-year-old girl: "Shut up, you have all the attention now so you can shut up."

The child burst into tears which made McKenzie respond: "She just needs to man the f*** up."

Janette told McKenzie that he was frightening the children.

She was told: "It is what it is."

Prosecutor Carrie Stevens added: "McKenzie punched Janette to the face which caused her glasses to break and nose to bleed."

She left the property to be treated at hospital for "significant swelling". Janette attended days later for a bump on her nose as a result of the punch to be surgically filed down.

It was revealed McKenzie has three previous convictions for assault.

Sheriff Lindsay Wood stated: "I'm not fond of people who assault their sister and cause severe injury - that's just disgraceful."

McKenzie's lawyer told the court there was a background between him and his sister.

Jim Clark added: "He joined the French foreign legion and served in France for 18 months. After living here, he joined the British army for two-and-a-half years in the parachute regiment."

Sentence was deferred to the end of the month pending background reports and bail was continued meantime.
