Lily Allen review: Less a gig than a piece of cathartic performance art

Lily Allen - (Henry Redcliffe)

You can’t say Lily Allen doesn’t have exquisite timing. In October she surprise-dropped West End Girl, her album “inspired” by her exploded/imploded marriage to David Harbour, just as the PR campaign rolled out for the final series of the actor’s career-making show, Stranger Things.

Now she’s launching the West End Girl tour on the same night that Harbour’s new series, DTF St Louis, starts on Sky. To be fair, that’s just delicious coincidence. But the fact that, in the drama, Harbour’s character is the sad-sack third wheel in a swingers-on-the-apps partner-swap (“DTF” stands for “down to f*ck”) makes it even more delicious. Either way, the passionately onside, predominantly female audience in Glasgow are fully here for a night of karmic rebalance.
