Ligue 1 embroiled in astonishing saga as players refuse to wear anti-homophobia shirts

France’s Ligue 1 has become embroiled in controversy after several players refused to take part in a gesture of support against homophobia.

The French Professional League (LFP) had called for top-flight players to wear a shirt with a rainbow-coloured number on the back at this weekend's matches ahead of Wednesday's International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.
