Remnants of a festive light show have been left strewn across a south London park after the company behind it went into administration.

Outreach Creative Ltd, the firm behind Lightopia, which ran in Crystal Palace Park from mid-November to early January, went into administration just a week later on January 9.

Pictures taken by locals show abandoned unicorns, a collapsed nutcracker and toppled candy canes left strewn around the park.

According to the Crystal Palace Park Trust, the park had been due to be put back in its original position by January 12, a deadline that was not met amid the firm’s collapse.

It said in a statement: “The company behind Lightopia has entered administration, causing a delay in de-rig and reinstatement.

“The Trust is working to facilitate the removal of equipment and completion of reinstatement.”

It added: “If it becomes necessary, the Trust will directly oversee the removal of equipment and site reinstatement to ensure that it occurs in a timely manner.”

The Standard has contacted the administrators, Begbies Traynor, for comment.

Lightopia, which also took place in Crystal Palace Park in 2021, billed itself as an “award-winning and visually spectacular lantern and light festival”.

Other installations occurred in Manchester, Alton Towers resort in Staffordshire and in Belgium.
