Sunshine Coast have served up the biggest shock of the Super Netball competition, handing the ladder-leading Melbourne Vixens their first loss of the season.
Starting the round in sixth place, the Lightning ended a three-game losing streak in style, with their home fans elated with the 66-56 victory at UniSC Arena.
The reigning champion Vixens arrived in Queensland without three key players, with Emily Mannix ruled out through illness, while Rudi Ellis and Hannah Mundy both failed fitness tests.
That opened the door for Maggie Caris to replace Mannix, while debutants Ally O'Connor and Ruby Pekin-Schlicht also came into the line-up.
The trio all got game time as Vixens coach Di Honey rotated through her players as she searched for answers to stop the Sunshine Coast onslaught.
Caris started at goal-keeper but struggled to dent the impact of Donnell Wallam, who nailed 15 goals from 16 attempts to steer the Lightning to a 19-12 quarter-time lead.
It wasn't just Caris who struggled, with the Vixens - who won their round-four meeting 70-59 - outplayed through the midcourt, with wing attack Leesa Mi Mi a standout.
Mi Mi, named player of the match, said it felt amazing to topple the champions.
"I feel like we worked so hard at the start of the week and we had great conversations and it's just a great feeling," she told Fox Sports.
"It's definitely not an individual effort - it's a whole team effort and I love them for it.
"I feel like it's a good confidence boost and, yeah, let's make top four."
Goal menaces Karin Burger and Courtney Bruce also piled plenty of pressure on the Vixens shooters, with Diamonds star Kiera Austin restricted to just 21 goals, converting at only 72.4 per cent.
Long-range specialist Lily Graham grabbed two super shots late in the second term, but the Lightning still boasted a 33-24 lead at halftime.
The Vixens have dominated third quarters throughout the season, but fell even further behind and trailed 49-36 heading into the final term.
Honey switched skipper Kate Moloney and Zara Walters between centre and wing attack to try to disrupt the Lightning ball movement, but it had little impact.
With goal-attack Cara Koenen contributing 18 goal assists as well as 11 goals for the match, the Lightning continued to dominate their lacklustre rivals.
Wallam added a further 13 goals to bring her tally for the match to 54 and further push her claims for a recall to the Diamonds squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
