Lightfoot chooses Deborah Witzburg as new city inspector general

Mayor Lori Lightfoot has chosen former deputy inspector general for public safety Deborah Witzburg to be Chicago’s new, $178,488-a-year watchdog in an apparent attempt to burnish her reformer credentials.

Walter Katz, who served as deputy chief of staff for public safety under Mayor Rahm Emanuel, was one of five members of the search committee that recommended Witzburg and another candidate from outside Chicago.
