Liel Abada explains Celtic tribute to teen after tragic death with reminder in dressing room

Liel Abada has opened up for the first time on his tribute to Celtic fan Leon Brown in last month's derby against Rangers.

The Israeli winger held up a T-shirt with the late 14-year-old on it after his death before the game and after taking part in a TikTok challenge online. Abada says he had no hesitation in displaying the tribute during a game, where Celtic went on to win at Parkhead 4-0 thanks to his double, plus Jota and David Turnbull goals.

He said: "Before the game, the mum of the boy called an Israeli guy in Glasgow and he asked me if it was possible to do something. I was the kid's favourite player, he loved me and they were big Celtic supporters. So I said, 'Sure, no problem.' I thought about the T-shirt with the picture and after I scored against Rangers I wanted to show it to the fans."

A permanent reminder of the young fan now sits in the home dressing room at Celtic, and Abada has also handed a signed shirt to the family.

Mum Lauryn Keating said at the time: "I received this top from Liel Abada signed by all of Celtic Football Club. Abada said he kept the top of Leon that he held up at the game and has put it up in the changing room where it will stay.

"He said he was honoured to be able to do all this for my boy. Not only an outstanding player but the most genuine and kindest person ever."
