Lidl launches 19-year-old Islay single malt whisky in time for Christmas

Ahead of the Christmas season, Lidl has released a new 19-year-old single malt whisky from Islay.

The budget supermarket 's Ben Bracken is only available in stores while stocks last, so those keen to try the limited whisky are encouraged to pick it up quickly. The 70cl bottle can be bought in Lidl shops across the country for £39.99.

Among the first to try the brand new malt ahead of its nationwide launch was Blair Bowman, Scotland’s leading whisky expert and founder of World Whisky Day. He praised the whisky's fruity and spiced flavours, and long and lingering finish.

Bowman commented: “This is another cracker of a whisky from Lidl. It's rich, fruity, and sooty, best served by a roaring fireplace on a cold, winter’s night.

"You can’t go wrong with this warming, wintery malt. The bright amber liquid has a nose reminiscent of indulgent s’mores, with malty digestives and marshmallows, while the palette features dark chocolate and lashings of black cherry jam.”

Islay is known as 'The Queen of the Hebrides', and is famous for its smoky, peaty style of whisky. It is made by malting barley over burning peat.

For those on a tight budget amid the cost of living crisis, Ben Bracken is a good way to enjoy the Scottish delicacy at a significantly lower price.
