Lidl Ireland customer finds strange surprise on top of mini muffin

A Lidl Ireland customer found an unusual surprise on a bun that he purchased in store.

The expiration date, usually found on packaging, was printed on top of the white icing on the muffin.

It was part of a box of 12 mini muffins from the brand Bridge Bakery.

Taking to Twitter, the customer flagged the issue with Lidl Ireland, saying: "Hmm, not entirely sure this is where the best before date is supposed to be printed".

Lidl responded to the customer, saying: "Cian thanks for flagging this with us, we’re sorry about that! We’ll be passing on to our Quality Dept to investigate further. If you could contact our customer services on http://Lidl.ie/Contact or http://Lidl.ie/WhatsApp they can help get that refunded. Thanks."

A spokeswoman for Lidl told Dublin Live the packaging lead was not secured properly during production.

She said: "There is no report of this being logged with our Customer Services team but our Quality team have reached out to the supplier to inform them.

"Quality have said it appears the packaging lid of the product was not secured properly during production and popped open, resulting in the BBD & batch being applied directly to the product instead of the lid of the packaging."
