This week we are putting the Lidl "inflation buster" shopping menu to the test.
The 'inflation buster' shopping list claims to "feed a family of four for just under €76".
Our food for day one came from the shopping list, including ingredients for homemade soup.

Here is today's menu:
- Breakfast - Porridge
- Lunch - homemade minestrone soup with some bread
- Dinner - Mince pies, vegetables and potatoes
For breakfast, the porridge was a little bland so we added apples, cinnamon and some sugar.
The porridge was quick and kept the whole family full until lunch time. It's also a really healthy breakfast and a great way to keep your energy up for a busy morning.
Next up was homemade minestrone soup. This is a great option for anyone who is watching calories or looking for a healthy lunch.
Here are the ingredients:
- Two carrots
- Stick of celary
- One onion
- Two stock cubes
- A tin of tomatoes
- A handful of spaghetti
- Some basil to taste
- Some water
We used a soup maker but you can easily just cook this in a pot.
Serve with a slice of brown bread. We have to say, the soup was delicious, filling and the rest of the family were happy.
We'll definitely be making this for lunch again.
Finally for dinner, we had boiled potatoes, carrots, processed peas and mince pies from Lidl. A simple and easy dinner for busy parents to throw together. Pop the pies into the oven, cook the veg and potatoes, heat up the peas and you're good to go.
We were well fed - day 1 menu test was a success!
Check back with us tomorrow to find out how Day 2 of the challenge goes.
