Supermarket giant Lidl has found itself in hot water with shoppers after making a noticeable change to its toilet rolls. The retailer is often a go-to for shoppers who want the cheapest prices when doing their grocery shop.
Lidl has been named the UK's cheapest supermarket on various occasions, and prides itself on having competitive prices which rival those you'll find at Aldi, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, ASDA, Tesco and Iceland. But a change to one of Lidl's most popular essential items has rubbed shoppers up the wrong way.
Lidl shoppers have complained that the retailer has changed its quilted toilet roll from 4 ply to 3 ply. But despite the change in ply rating, the price has remained the same.

Posting on the the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook, one shopper shared an image of Lidl Floralys toilet roll four-pack. The post was captioned: "Not a bargain but something to be aware of.
"Lidl have changed the quality of their quilted toilet paper, changed from 4 ply to 3 ply but have kept the price the same." The post garnered a mass response with nearly 400 comments from others sharing their disappointment with the revelation
Gemma Ingleman moaned: "I noticed this the other day because it felt different that's so cheeky." Sharon Richards said: "Why am I not surprised can't believe the prices of loo paper and kitchen paper it's all way over the top now don't know when all this is going to end its all becoming extortionate now."
Joyce Bunn said: "All companies are doing something similar unfortunately, they think we don't notice." Jill Scott said: "Crafty. They are all at it. Reducing the size of everything in the shops. Still get charged the same or more." Julie Swayze exclaimed: "Sneaky!!"
Sandra Smith chimed in: "I noticed this the other week, not good." Ilona Van Dijk said: "What in the toilet roll is going on here?"
Phillipa W-p pointed out: "I was told 3 ply is better than 4 anyway because the thicker ply’s block the drains." Ann Mccallum Wallace agreed: "3 ply better to flush and for environment."
As of writing, Lidl advertises the price online of a four-pack of Floralys quilted range on its website as £3.09. This product is also pictured as being four-ply, says the Mirror.
Responding to the claims, a Lidl spokesperson explained that the product was recently reformulated to improve the quality of each individual layer. Lidl says that the new three-ply offering is equal to the quality of the previous four-ply, which is why the price is the same.
A Lidl spokesperson said: “Our teams have been working hard to improve the quality of the individual layers in our Floralys Quilted Toilet Tissue, making them thicker and stronger than before. This means that customers are still getting a high-quality product at the same great value price.”
