Supermarket giants Lidl and Aldi both issued hilarious responses to Liz Truss resigning as Prime Minister. Liz lasted a measly 6 weeks in the job, and was outlasted by a Tesco lettuce.
Speaking in Downing Street, she said: “This morning I met the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Sir Graham Brady. “We’ve agreed that there will be a leadership election to be completed within the next week.
“This will ensure that we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plan and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security. I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen."

Earlier this week, the Daily Star bought a 60p Tesco lettuce to see if it would outlast Liz as PM. The lettuce won.
Now Lidl and Aldi have both poked fun at #lettucegate. Posting on Facebook, Aldi wrote: "What a great day to be a lettuce." Vicky Bradley joked: "Lettuce 1 - Liz 0." Lisa Erica Williamson commented: "If this years Xmas ad isn’t kevin the carrot becoming prime minister & doing the Hugh Grant dance in Downing Street I’m going to seriously disappointed."
Angie Coulson joked: "well production line new for Christmas Aldi. Lizz Lettuce im sure Kevin can find her a job."
Howard Alexander said: "I think Cuthbert the caterpillar should be our next PM." Claire Sanders begged: "Oh please please please aldi put Liz the lettuce in the Kevin advert this year."
Rae Rhiannon Broadley took a dig at Aldi, writing: "It was probably an M&S lettuce though, let’s face it an Aldi one wouldn’t have won."
Meanwhile, on Twitter, Lidl also took the opportunity for a joke at the ex Prime Minister's expense. It tweeted: "Lettuce at 58p – a good buy Liz Truss at Number 10 – a goodbye."
Most shoppers enjoyed the tongue in cheek tweet. However, not everyone was best pleased.
@Greyhounds_PZ slammed: "really, you feel the need to do politics??!! disgusted!" @DanielleJSharpe clapped back: "Jeez just lettuce have a lidl laugh."
You can't please them all. Sometimes, it's better just to quit while you're ahead, isn't that right Liz?
