Lidl and Aldi issue urgent recall amid risk of plastic, silica beads and wrongly packaged item

A number of food products and drinks are now being recalled from the likes of Lidl and Aldi.

Listed on the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website, customers are being urged to check their shopping in case they have one of the affected products. Whilst some items on the FSA website may only apply to certain areas, the following affect Scotland also.

The items include rice and hot chocolate - a staple leading up to the festive season- reports Cambridgeshire Live.

Iceland Takeaway Pilau Rice

Pac k size: 350g

Best before: January 10 2024

Iceland Foods Ltd are recalling their own brand of Takeaway Pilau Rice. This is because it contains egg, sesame, soya and wheat, which are not mentioned on the label. This is because the rice has been incorrectly packed with egg fried rice which means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg, wheat and sesame or soya.

The FSA are advising customers not to eat the product but to return it to their nearest Iceland store for a full refund.

The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers which explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

FSA add: "If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to egg and/or wheat (gluten) and/or an allergy to sesame and/or soya do not eat it. Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For further information, contact Iceland Customer Care on 0800 328 0800 option 2."

Nestlé UK AERO hot chocolate products

Nestle is recalling all AERO Hot Chocolate packs because a small number of them may contain food-grade silica beads, which are unsafe to eat. This includes AERO Hot Chocolate jars, sachets, and AERO Go Instant Hot Chocolate.

The following products are listed as being recalled on the FSA website:

  • AERO Hot Choc jars, 288g - all batch codes and all date codes
  • AERO GO Instant ‘Hot Choc’, 24g - - all batch codes and all date codes
  • AERO ‘Hot Choc’ sachets, 28g - - all batch codes and all date codes

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.

Lidl Simply Grated Cheddar

Pack size: 500g

Best before: December 23 2022

Lidl GB is recalling Simply Grated Cheddar as it may contain small pieces of plastic. This means the product unsafe to eat with the supermarket advising: "If you have bought the above product do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund."
