A former Liberal state MP has been cleared for a one-off easing of his bail conditions after facing court over serious allegations of child sexual abuse.

Roderick "Rory" Amon is accused of committing multiple sexual assaults on a teenage boy he knew in 2017 on Sydney's northern beaches.

The 35-year-old former MP for the northern beaches seat of Pittwater appeared at Sydney's Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, when he sat silently in the back of the court waiting for his matter to be mentioned.

He resigned from parliament in August after the allegations became public.

His lawyer, Lauren MacDougall, told the court police had agreed to a minor variation in Amon's bail conditions.

He will not be required to report to police in person for one day only, on December 29.

Following the hearing, Amon appeared stony-faced as he was mobbed by waiting media outside the court, refusing to answer questions about the charges.

Police launched an investigation in 2022 after receiving a complaint that a teenage boy was sexually assaulted.

Amon was arrested in August and charged with five counts of sexual intercourse with a person over the age of 10 and under 14, two counts of attempt sexual intercourse with a child over 10 and under 14, two counts of indecent assault on a person under 16 and committing an act of indecency with a person under 16 years.

State Liberal leader Mark Speakman said in response to the allegations that he had asked for and received Amon's immediate resignation from the party.

"The charges laid against Rory Amon are extremely serious," he said at the time.

"While Mr Amon is entitled to the presumption of innocence, a criminal trial will be some time away and in the meantime the citizens of Pittwater are entitled to have a member of parliament who can discharge their duties in the community fully."

Independent Jacqui Scruby won the formerly blue-ribbon Liberal seat from Georgia Ryburn, the party's candidate to replace Amon, at a by-election in October.

A case conference is scheduled to be held between prosecutors and Amon's lawyers on February 17, with the matter due to return to court on February 27.
