- Former WBO light-middleweight world champion boxer Liam Smith has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged assault on a night concierge in Manchester.
- The 38-year-old Liverpudlian was arrested after a man suffered severe facial fractures requiring surgery at a luxury apartment building on Silvercroft Street on 13 September.
- Following an initial appearance at Manchester Magistrates Court, Smith was released on bail and is scheduled to enter a plea at Manchester Crown Court on 19 October.
- Smith, who held his world title between 2015 and 2016 and fought high-profile opponents including Canelo Alvarez, has been out of the ring since losing to Aaron McKenna in April 2025.
- The alleged attack took place shortly after the boxer was forced to withdraw from a planned bout against Ilari Kujala in Finland due to a calf injury.
