Liam Scales Celtic decision as Aberdeen wait on green light for confirmation of Pittodrie loan stay

Jim Goodwin is hopeful Celtic will allow Liam Scales to remain at Aberdeen for the second half of the season.

The defender is on loan at Pittodrie from the Hoops - with the Scottish champions having a recall option on the arrangement in January. The 24-year-old has featured 19 times in all competitions to date for the Dons and has been a key member of their side.

Talks are ongoing between Aberdeen and Celtic with the Reds hoping for confirmation of him staying for the next six months pretty quickly. Ange Postecoglou has Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Mortiz Jenz and Stephen Welsh on his books at present with Yuki Kobayashi signed up and arriving in January after the Hoops secured a deal for the highly-rated defender from the J-League. Providing an update on the latest news surrounding Scales, Goodwin said: “The chairman (Dave Cormack) was due to speak to Celtic’s board to get a feel for what their thoughts are. I know that Steven Gunn (Director of Football) has been on to Celtic already.

"I think we will get confirmation on that one pretty soon. Obviously Celtic have signed another defender who will be coming into their fold in January.

"The boy (Moritz) Jenz was on the bench for them on Saturday and Starfelt is back now.

"Realistically I’m not sure they will be needing Liam back, but we will have to wait to get that confirmed.”

Aberdeen come up against Rangers tonight under the lights at Pittodrie after suffering a late defeat to Celtic last time out.

Returning skipper Callum McGregor popped up with three minutes to play to grab the winner. It was a match the champions dominated and they got their reward late on. Now, it is the turn of Michael Beale and his Light Blues to face the Dons on the road.
