Liam Payne left fans stunned as he showed off a dramatically different look on the red carpet.
The One Direction star took to the red carpet for the premiere of former band-mate Louis Tomlinson's new documentary All Of Those Voices. The 29-year-old singer posed with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, but fans couldn't take their eyes off Liam's new sculpted facial features.
Since debuting his new look, fans have been speculating whether or not the Strip That Down singer went under the knife for the popular cosmetic surgery buccal fat removal. Buccal treatment has emerged as the latest trend for those in the media glare which sees fat pads removed from the inside of a person's cheek, resulting in a more angular face.
Aesthetician and lumenis practitioner Dr Saleena Zimri spoke to The Mirror about the pop star's new look, and said: "It does look like Liam has had some kind of buccal fat removal with the possibility of a jaw implant also! The buccal fat pad is an isolated fat pocket that sits just below the cheekbone on each side of the face, almost directly above the lower lip.
"The extraction of this fat pad has been performed to contour the cheekbone for years, as it helps to define a rounder face shape, giving it permanent structure, without the use of makeup.
"I have seen a huge spike in popularity in the past six weeks, as we have seen more celebrities adopting the look."
Dr Saleena, who is the founder of Skin Doctor Clinics, added: "The majority of people I see who have had or are seeking this type of treatment are typically in their 20s to 40s with full, round, or 'chubby' cheeks who seeks a more defined facial appearance."
“The procedure can be done under general or local anaesthetic, with a small incision being made inside of the cheek," she explained.
"The fat is then gently teased out through this small incision. This will happen on both sides of the cheek over a period of around 45-60 minutes, before dissolvable stitches are placed to close the incisions.
"Afterwards, the healing and recovery time is a few days, by then you should be able to return to work. However, visible signs of swelling may not disappear for around 4-6 weeks."
