Former Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson has found himself in the social media crosshairs of Oasis’s Liam Gallagher after calling the Manchester band “distinctly average”.
Gallagher, who’ll be reuniting with brother Noel for another Oasis tour next year, is known for being outspoken on X and firing back at his critics. This time, it was the Jim McDonald actor who started an online feud with the singer, resulting in Gallagher branding him a “silly old c***”.
On Tuesday (29 September), Lawson – who is best known for playing Jim McDonald on-and-off from 1989 until 2018 – replied to a post on X asking people whether they thought Oasis are “overhyped” or “genuinely one of the best bands the world has ever seen”. The actor wrote: “They are distinctly average.”
Just a few hours later, Gallagher fired back in the comments, replying: “Like your f***ing acting skills.”

He didn’t stop there, with the Oasis singer continuing to insult Lawson while replying to other users on X. When another fan questioned Lawson’s acting skills, Gallagher replied: “Actor in his f***ing dreams.”
Someone else commented on how Gallagher was “going for everyone today”, to which he responded: “He’s had it coming for a long time silly old c***.”
Northern Irish actor Lawson, 67, joined the show alongside Beverley Callard, who played his onscreen wife Liz, as well as onscreen sons Simon Gregson (Steve McDonald) and Nicholas Cochrane (Andy McDonald). During his time on the ITV soap, his character Jim was sent to prison several times, was divorced by Liz after alcohol addiction led to domestic violence and eventually died off-screen in March 2026.
Outside of Corrie, Lawson appeared in Doctors, Rosemary & Thyme and The Bill. He has not taken on acting roles since 2018, when he suffered a minor stroke on stage that left him with difficulties with his mobility and hearing.
Lawson and Gallagher’s online altercation comes just days after the Manchester-born singer told Oasis fans to “stop moaning” over ticket prices for their tour next year. Oasis Live 27 will see the Gallagher brothers perform 38 concerts in the UK and Ireland, Europe and US, with those hoping for tickets having been required to pre-register for the sales on Thursday 17 September.
Successful fans were then sent a unique, non-transferrable code that could be used to join an online queue to buy tickets. All sales came to an end on 27 September and with tickets ranging from £71.50 to £266.60, some fans took to social media to complain.
“STOP MOANING,” Liam Gallagher wrote on X in response and when asked his thoughts on resellers charging “extortionate prices”, he replied: “Don’t f***ing buy them SIMPLE.”
Oasis added four extra dates after demand for the tour proved to be huge, with two more now at Knebworth on 25 and 26 September, where they famously played two concerts in August 1996 to an audience of more than 100,000 fans each night. Full tour dates here.
