Liam Brady was not happy with England's defensive effort as they beat Iran 6-2 in their opening World Cup fixture.
Gareth Southgate's side impressed in their big win with goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish.
And the side did not seem to have any major World Cup nerves.
But at times England looked suspect at the back.
And Brady said the performance summed up England.
He said on RTE's coverage: "Iran were very disappointing but they got a couple of consolation goals in the end.
"It highlights what England are all about, very good going forward. Lots of really good attacking players. Saka was terrific.
"As we've said the players they can afford to bring on in an attacking sense but in defence they have problems.
"Harry Maguire was very poor for the first goal, John Stones got caught out a couple of times. Eric Dier when he came on looked like he was lacking a bit of pace.
"They are going to face good teams with good attacking players going forward and perhaps that is going to be their downfall."
