LGBTQ+ venue 'gutted' to be closing down but 'excited' for new venture

An LGBTQ+ venue has announced its closure this week.

On Point Liverpool, found in the city’s Pride Quarter, took to social media to inform its customers of the “bittersweet” news. The city centre cocktail bar said it would be closing its doors permanently in early January.

The inclusive venue opened just before the first lockdown in 2020 on Victoria Street, describing itself as Liverpool’s first fully interactive cocktail bar. The bar then moved to Eberle Street earlier this year after a review was instigated following complaints in relation to "the licensing objectives of the prevention of public nuisance".

Now, after three years in business, the team behind the bar have revealed the venue will be relocating to Manchester in an “exciting” new venture.

In a message posted to the company’s social media accounts, On Point penned: “So a bit of a bitter-sweet status to write here but we just wanted to let you all know that early January we will be closing our doors permanently.

“We love On Point and we love what we’ve achieved, we love our customers that have literally supported us since the very first day we opened in the old venue so it’s really sad for us to leave all this behind but we have been offered a really amazing opportunity that we can’t turn down.

“We will be relocating to Manchester in the new year to start our new venture, we have thought about our friends and family a lot and so we will be offering a two-weekly coach trip to the new venue pick up and return to Moorefields station.

“We are gutted but excited at the same time and we really can’t wait to share our new journey with you all.”

Regulars and members of Liverpool’s LGBTQ+ community flooded the comments with messages of support and sadness.

Iwan Steffan wrote: “The most supportive group of people on that scene. Thanks for everything. X”. Drag queen Minnie Cooper said: “Gutted to hear you’re leaving Liverpool but all the best with Manchester. Can’t wait to visit! Xx”

Sheila Galvin-nee Rodaway added: “Best of luck to you in your new venture an I'm sure you will smash it. Here's to good luck wishes and I hope all goes well xx”. William Coughlin commented: “We wish you all the very best and you know we’re fully behind whatever you both do xxxx”
