LFC fan, 9, makes 'friend for life' in magical moment

A nine-year-old Liverpool FC fan burst into tears after meeting his hero in a magical moment at a showpiece match.

John Myatt took his son Zac to watch Liverpool's Community Shield match against Manchester City at Leicester City's King Power Stadium last Saturday to celebrate his ninth birthday. But it was after the match that Zac's dream became a reality, when he got to meet his favourite player Andy Robertson, who signed his cap and Liverpool shirt.

John, 40, from Dingle, told the ECHO: "Everyone else was going [to buy] shirts and he said 'all I want to do is see if I can get Robbo to sign my shirt."

The moment the match finished, John said Zac ran down the stairs towards the front of the pitch where with the help of other fans and a security guard, he managed to get the player's attention.

John said: "Robbo saw him and just came over. It was magical. He cried all the way from the stadium back [to the car], which is about 20 minutes. When we got back to the car he was holding his cap and the shirt and he fell asleep holding it."

Unbeknown to John, someone had filmed the moment an emotional Zac got his shirt signed, in the video which has been viewed over 100,000 times on Twitter and TikTok. Zac can be seen trying to hold back the tears in the video, before putting his hand to his mouth in shock.

John said: "A few of my mates saw it and were texting me 'I'm sure that's your boy.' I can't believe he played all that game and still came over to him. It's changed everything for this little lad.

"It's just made his birthday, I don't know how I'm going to top that next year. I think Robbo has made a friend for life."
