Lewis Warrington seals deadline day loan move to League One club

Academy starlet Lewis Warrington has joined Fleetwood Town on loan.

The teenager's impressive summer was capped off with a first team debut against his new club in the Carabao Cup last month. Now the 19-year-old, who has repeatedly earned Frank Lampard's praise, is set to ply his trade under manager Scott Brown in League One.

The boyhood Blue, who signed a new deal with the club this summer, had been attracting interest throughout recent months but Lampard said he would only consider offers once he knew the state of his squad at the end of the transfer window. Following the arrival of central midfielders Idrissa Gana Gueye and James Garner on deadline day, Warrington has now been allowed to continue his development on the Fylde Coast.

Warrington enjoyed a successful loan spell in League Two with Tranmere Rovers last season. He was then taken on Everton's pre-season tour of the USA - playing against both Arsenal and Minnesota United. After making his debut against Fleetwood, Lampard said: "I thought Lewis was brilliant today when he came on. And when I say brilliant, people might ask, 'Was he brilliant?' Well, yes, because he got us playing. He received it and did basic things in midfield. Receive, play, move, open up the game... he did it. He's an Evertonian. He was delighted to come on the pitch and it was oozing out of him. I love that. He wanted to play for the club and come on."

The Birkenhead-born teenager, who joined Everton Academy aged six, signed a two year deal with the Blues earlier this summer. After committing his future to the club, he said: “I’ve supported Everton all my life and playing for my boyhood club is what I’ve dreamt of. To sign another deal, it’s massive for me, my family and my friends. They’re all made up for me."
