Lewis Grabban could be out until mid-March with the injury he suffered in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City.
The Reds’ leading scorer was clattered by Will Vaulks at the Cardiff City Stadium and had to be helped off the pitch.
Losing the experienced marksman for any length of time would be a blow for the Reds in their quest to land a play-off place, although Steve Cooper added two strikers to his squad, with Keinan Davis and Sam Surridge arriving during the transfer window.
The latter arrived from Stoke City on deadline day and is timely addition given Grabban will spend the next few weeks on the sidelines.
Daniel Taylor of The Athletic has reported an update on Grabban’s injury, and the Reds’ interest in winger Josh Bowler, who has stayed at Blackpool.
“Grabban is a blow - medics think six weeks - and club tried hard to get Josh Bowler at Blackpool. Overall window, though, has been a good one,” he tweeted.
Speaking about Grabban’s injury after the Cardiff game, Cooper said: “We’re not sure about the extent of Lewis’ injury yet. He’s in a boot and he’s in quite a bit of pain.
“We’ll have to get him scanned in the next 12 or 24 hours and see how he is.
“I think it was his ankle. He’s not in great shape in the dressing room.”
