Lewis Ferguson completes life-changing move from Aberdeen to Bologna

Lewis Ferguson completes life-changing move from Aberdeen to Bologna

LEWIS FERGUSON has completed his sensational switch to the Serie A.

The midfielder has joined Bologna from Aberdeen after four years at Pittodrie.

The Scotland international has been sold by the Dons in a deal which could be worth up to £3million.

It emerged over the weekend that the penalty specialist would be heading for Italy this summer.

Now, the move has been confirmed by both clubs - with Ferguson pictured in a Bologna strip on the club's official Twitter account.

They also teased the announcement with the adopted Scotland song 'Yes Sir, I can Boogie'.

An Aberdeen statement reads: "Aberdeen FC today confirms highly rated midfielder and Scotland International, Lewis Ferguson, has joined Serie A side Bologna F.C. for an undisclosed fee.

"The 22-year-old graduated from the Hamilton Academical youth system, making an early breakthrough to their first team before joining the Dons in 2018.

"His debut came immediately, on 26 July 2018, in the first leg of a Europa League tie against Burnley at Pittodrie Stadium and he instantly made his name by scoring a spectacular overhead kick in the return leg at Turf Moor.

"Lewis quickly established himself as a key member of the first team and he capped a superb debut season at Pittodrie by winning the AFC Young Player of the Year award plus Goal of the Season. In May 2019, he was nominated for the season’s PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year.

"The following season, Lewis was the first ever Aberdeen FC recipient of the Young Player award from the Scottish Football Writers. He also picked up the Aberdeen FC Goal of the Season award again for his strike against St Mirren in the Scottish Cup.

"In 2020-21 Lewis Ferguson’s stunning strike against Hamilton Accies in October was voted by the Red Army as our Goal of the Season. It was the third season in a row that Lewis collected this award, after picking up the accolade in the two previous seasons for his strikes against Burnley and St Mirren. He again won the AFC Young Player of the year prize. And last season he was selected by his teammates as the Players’ Player of the Year.

"A Scotland U21 internationalist during his time at Pittodrie, Lewis was called up to the senior Scotland squad in 2021, making his debut for the national side against Denmark.

"During his four seasons at Pittodrie, he made 169 appearances, of which 168 were starts, and scored 37 goals.

"Everyone at Aberdeen FC wishes Lewis all the very best in his future career."
