Lewis Capaldi has released his phone number on social media with thousands of fans scrambling to call the Scots singer-songwriter. But of course it was a genius ploy amid the release of his news single, Pointless.
The Scot released his digits to 1.4 million followers on Twitter tonight, with the simple request: "call me". But fans were left stumped when they were directed to the star's answering machine, urging them to download his new song.
In his voice memo, he says: "Hello, thanks for very much for calling! It's Lewis. It's absolutely pointless calling me, I have got nothing else to say."
Before hanging up, the star, from Whitburn in West Lothian, adds: "Just make sure you click on the link and download the song."
Fans were then texted with a link to directly download 'Pointless' on iTunes. One person wrote on Twitter: "Stop teasing, Lewis!"
Another added: "I called but it was pointless." Another fan wrote: "Ugh, I thought I was actually gonna have a chat with you."
Pointless is the star's follow up to Forget Me, the lead single of his upcoming second album, Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent. The Someone You Loved hitmaker began working on music for his new album with Snow Patrol star Johnny McDaid and producer Steve Mac.
