Lewis Capaldi stunned fans after making a surprise appearance at an open mic night in Glasgow.
The Someone You Loved singer took to the stage at Box Glasgow during their open mic on Tuesday night, as he performed his new single Forget Me. The Sauchiehall Street pub was jam-packed when the 25-year-old star took to the stage to perform, and said: "I've not done an open mic night in many a year, but because of the passing of the Queen, they've cancelled all my promo so I need to do something."
The open mic night is regularly hosted by Ross Leighton of Fatherson and Callum Wiseman of Prides and attracts musicians of all kinds who want to show their abilities. Lewis performed his latest single which he told Lorraine Kelly earlier in the week was inspired by creeping through his ex-girlfriend's Instagram and being upset that she had moved on.
The crowd was left stunned after Capaldi's impromptu performance, as other artists taking to the stage afterward dubbed him the 'support act'. Speaking to the Daily Record, musician Archie said: "It was really unexpected, I had got in and put my name down on the list to play then sat down to watch the other acts. A couple minutes later , Ross who was running the open mic goes up on stage and says 'I’d like to introduce up to the stage, Lewis Capaldi'.
"He gets up on the stage and just starts playing his new single, within 30 seconds from him getting on stage the bar was packed out, there were people coming in and the entire floor was full from front to back, then after he played he said thanks for listening, all drinks are on me for the rest of the night and then he just left."
On taking to the stage after Capaldi's performance, Archie added: "I was on literally two minutes after he had played so the bar was still really packed and it was super cool playing to a full house and everyone seemed to enjoy it - was a pretty surreal experience playing right after Lewis Capaldi himself!"
Fans even took to Twitter to share their disbelief after Capaldi's surprise performance. One wrote: " @LewisCapaldi you paid for my drinks tonight at box. i love you man"
Another penned: "When you see @LewisCapaldi is in the box in glasgow and get proper Fomo"
Capaldi's second album release date is yet to be announced.
