Lewis Capaldi has opened up about the email of encouragement he received from music legend Elton John.
The West Lothian superstar bared his soul in his documentary How I'm Feeling Now, which gives an intimate insight into Lewis' life as he writes his second album while grappling with anxiety and his Tourette's diagnosis. Lewis, 26, is good pals with Ed Sheeran, and while he doesn't make a cameo in the documentary, he is mentioned at a pivotal moment.
The Someone You Loved singer opened up about a conversation he had with Ed about his "imposter syndrome" - which typically leaves people feeling like they don't belong or are a fraud. In the documentary, Lewis states: “I have never been more insecure in my life than I am now. I feel like I’m in a race against the clock to get my mental health in order."
While Lewis' friends and family are seen supporting him throughout the documentary, he got some special words of encouragement from the legendary Elton. Getting ready for an awards show, Lewis says: "I wonder what Elton John is gonna sing. He sent me a really lovely email, did I tell you about this?"
He continued: "Had a few beers with Ed Sheeran and I was telling him about my imposter syndrome situation.
"Elton sent me an email saying 'Dear Lewis, I was talking to Ed yesterday and we talked about you. He said you were feeling a bit like an imposter. B******KS.
"You are totally your own man. Your album is still riding high all over the world. And it is your FIRST album.
He added: "You write beautiful songs that resonate with millions of people. You are great live and a wonderful singer. You are also very funny and original. I mean this sincerely.
"So stop this now please or I will come up to Sussex and bring out the latent homo in you. Buckets of love. Elton’.”
Lewis adds: "I mean it's nice to hear and stuff but you obviously feel like that. I don't think it's ever going to go away that feeling. I got here today and I'm like 'Why the f*** am I here?'"
Lewis Capaldi's Netflix documentary How I'm Feeling Now will be available to stream on Netflix on April 5, 2023.
