Lewis Capaldi, Matty Healy and Liam Fray among huge Manchester shows in January

With the excitement of Christmas having been and gone, many will be on the hunt for something to look forward to this January. And there are a number of fantastic bands and artists heading to Manchester to start 2023 how we mean to go on.

Starting the month, Manchester’s own Liam Fray, originally from Middleton, will be performing at the O2 Ritz as part of a series of intimate acoustic shows. The Courteeners frontman is promising to play some of the band’s best loved hits as well as deep dive into rarely heard songs from the decade old back catalogue.

Although the show is already sold out, it’s well worth keeping an eye on Ticketmaster for any last-minute resales.

Two-time BRIT Award winner Lewis Capaldi is also returning to the city after playing Castlefield Bowl in the summer. It follows the release of his latest single ‘Forget Me’ from his sophomore album Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent, which will be released in May.

Recognised as one of the most successful and critically acclaimed artists of his generation, Lewis Capaldi broke a world record in becoming the first artist in history to sell out an arena tour prior to the release of a debut album. Moreover, his first tour for Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent sold out in one second and saw Capaldi perform in 36 different countries across the globe. We’re expecting this tour to be just as popular.

Formed in Manchester in 2002, The 1975 are also set to partake in a homecoming concert this January 20. Fronted by Matty Healy, the band will be touring their highly anticipated fifth studio album Being Funny In A Foreign Language, from which they’ve already released a number of tracks, such as ‘I’m In Love With You’.

Matty revealed earlier this month that the band will also be playing an intimate concert on February 1 at music venue Gorilla, in addition to the band’s Manchester gig as part of the UK and Ireland tour dates.

Sharing the news on Instagram, Matty Healy said: "Hello everybody, we are playing a show in Manchester on the 1st of February at Gorilla. And all the money will be going to War child so try and get tickets for that one."

Also performing at Gorilla is The Subways , who burst onto the UK indie scene in 2005 with their debut album Young for Eternity, followed by All Or Nothing in 2008.

Firm summer festival favourites, they have graced the main stages of over 100 international festivals, and whether in front of 100 people or 250,000 the band always deliver a high octane and thoroughly entertaining set. You can catch them at Gorilla on January 27.

On the same night, Circa Waves will take to the stage at O2 Victoria Warehouse , where you can get tickets from just £25 . But music lovers may find themselves with a dilemma on their hands, with Editors also performing, this time over at Manchester Academy .

If you’re looking for a way to rid yourself of the January blues, a Manchester gig is just the ticket - you can find all of the local events and purchase tickets online here .
