Lewis Capaldi announced in Glastonbury Festival line-up as Scots singer returns for 2023

Scots singing sensation Lewis Capaldi has been announced a return to the star-studded lineup of Glastonbury Festival 2023 this June.

Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses have also been announced as Glastonbury's final two headliners, joining Sir Elton John at the top of the bill.

The Forget Me singer last appeared in the Somerset festival in 2019 where he took to the stage wearing a parka and a t-shirt with Noel Gallagher's face on it after the Oasis legend slagged him off in an interview asking "Who's this Capaldi fella? Who the f**k is that idiot?"

Lewis swaggered onto stage to the sound of "here comes the money" to tear into the Oasis songwriter to rustle the feathers of Noel, with his estranged brother Liam also getting involved in the spat.

Noel even called him out to resemble Chewbacca as the slandering insults poured in. But in true Scots comedy gold, the 26-year-old used the opportunity to boost his stage presence in a hilarious stunt after also re-naming himself as 'Chewis Capaldi'.

Who knows what Lewis will bring to the Glasto stage this year, but we're certain that he will definitely put on a show.

This year's line-up also includes Christine And The Queens, Fatboy Slim, Lana Del Rey, Lil Nas X, Loyle Carner, Maneskin, Rudimental, Slowthai, Thundercat and Young Fathers as well as Lewis Capaldi.

Yusuf/Cat Stevens will perform during the tea time legends slot on Sunday afternoon, despite Roxy Music being heavily rumoured, the BBC said.

But Sir Elton is likely to be this year's biggest attraction, as he draws the curtain in his career on six decades of live performance.

"It's a massive, massive coup for us to be able to get him here for the end of his tour," festival organiser Emily Eavis told the BBC. "And he's really up for it. He's been on the phone with loads of brilliant ideas and he's just fired up about it."

More than 50 acts were announced for this year's line-up on Friday, with "hundreds more" still to be announced before the festival opens its gates on Wednesday, 21 June.

The initial line-up of acts includes Nigerian superstar Wizkid, who will headline the Other Stage on Friday night and US torch singer Lana Del Rey, who will play opposite Guns N' Roses on Saturday.

Christine and the Queens return to headline the Woodsies Stage, a new name for what was formerly the John Peel stage.

Meanwhile, Eurovision winners Måneskin will make their festival debut, as will pop maverick Rina Sawayama, US country stars The Chicks and BBC Sound of 2023 winners Flo.

In keeping with Glastonbury's pledge to make festival line-ups gender balanced, there is almost an equal split between male and female acts. However, all of this year's main stage headliners are male.

"We try our best and we obviously aim for 50:50," Eavis told the BBC. "Some years, it's more, some years, it's less.

"This year, we did have a female headliner, and she unfortunately had to pull out... It changes all the time.

"But next year it's looking like we've got two female headliners, so fingers crossed."

Can you still get tickets for Glastonbury 2023?

Tickets for the festival sold out only 61 minutes after going on sale last November despite the price rising to £340.

But the good news is that returned and cancelled tickets will be put back on sale closer to the event so you could still get your hands on some - typically in late March or early April.

Organisers are also raffling 10 pairs of tickets to raise money for the DEC Turkey-Syria Earthquake appeal, with entries open until March 8.

Glastonbury 2023 will take place in Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, from Wednesday June 21st to Sunday the 25th.
