Ukrainian-American businessman Lev Parnas has made an appearance on Capitol Hill to provide testimony in the House Oversight Committee's ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Biden. Parnas, who has been indicted, expressed his intention to share the truth during his brief interaction with reporters before entering the hearing room.
Parnas has previously alleged that he collaborated with Rudy Giuliani in an attempt to exert pressure on Ukrainian officials to announce an investigation into the Biden family ahead of the 2020 presidential election. In June 2022, Parnas was sentenced to 20 months in prison for various charges related to soliciting foreign funds for U.S. elections, wire fraud, and providing false information. The U.S. Attorney accused him of funneling Russian money into American elections and misleading authorities about the origins of political contributions.
Democrats on the House Oversight Committee extended an invitation to Parnas to testify as a witness. Ranking member Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., emphasized the potential for Parnas to debunk what he referred to as baseless claims central to the impeachment inquiry. Raskin also suggested that Parnas could shed light on the circumstances that led the GOP to its current state, which he characterized as degraded and embarrassing.
