I taught Matthew Perry at Ashbury college in Ottawa from 1980 to 1984. As well as an outstanding tennis player, he was a brilliant soccer goalkeeper. I was his coach and, as well as making great saves, he dominated play as far as the halfway line. He also started acting in school plays there. He was mesmerising in the role of Jack in Lord of the Flies. He was a rare sporting and acting talent.
