Perthshire’s Junior teams will pit their wits in the Scottish Junior Cup this weekend.
The first round of the competition bursts into life tomorrow with all four of the region’s sides in home action and kicking-off at 2.30pm.
Letham welcome Moray-based Burghead Thistle of the North Region Championship to Seven Acres.
“We don’t know an awful lot about them but I have had a few reports on them from my contacts from the North region,” said Letham manager Sean Whitworth.
“They won’t know an awful lot about us either and that is what makes the Scottish Cup so intriguing, coming up against new opposition.
“Saturday will be about concentrating on our own performance, making sure we force our own style onto the game. And if we do that I know we will have a good opportunity for a good result.”
After a busy start to the Midlands League season, the switch to cup football is a welcomed one.
Whitworth said: “It’s a difficult start to the league with games on Saturdays and Wednesdays for the first six weeks, so it’s refreshing to get the change of competition.
“There is always an excitement around the ties and this week will be no different. It’s also a great point to introduce the new members of the team into the squad formally with their initiation songs!”
Letham hope to be singing their way deep into the Scottish Cup draw but full focus remains on this weekend.
“I want to progress further in every competition that we enter than previous,” Whitworth added. “It’s an aim to better our previous achievements.
“There is always the hope that you can get through the ties and pick up one of the glamour ties against one of the big guns in the junior scene and test yourselves.
“But to be able to do that we will need to be right up for it on Saturday to give us the best chance of progression.”
Blairgowrie, meanwhile, welcome Stonehaven to Davie Park and, just along the road, Coupar Angus host Beith Juniors.
Completing the line-up of home matches is Scone Thistle. The Jaggie Nettles will be in action at Farquharson Park against New Elgin.
