ECHO readers have called for This Morning to be axed after Phillip Schofield confessed he lied about an affair with a younger male colleague.
The broadcaster is battling to save the show and its reputation from being 'tarnished beyond repair' after Schofield's confession. But thousands said the show should be ended, with some declaring the axing of the show, at least in its current format, a done decision.
Yet, for some "the show must go on", particularly for fan Mary Leigh, who said if the show is axed it would be an admittance it relied on Schofield to survive.

She said: "He wasn't This Morning, there was other presenters before him and the show survived. It's been good this week a bit patchy in places but they have been to hell and back, but they have done a good job.
"When Alison started crying this morning about Philip I was crying with her. She added that it 'just won't seem right' with Holly back without Phil, saying 'I believe she should leave too'.
Her idea to get rid of Holly Willoughby is not an new one, and many people said Schofield's once-counterpart should be axed in order to give the show a brand new lease of life.
On Facebook, Barbara Hutchinson said it's not the presenters that make the content of the program 'interesting'. She called for "two new presenters, ones that haven't been in the program before'".
She added: "New faces and a new format will make the program what it's supposed to be about. Definitely two new characters."
But Katie Zolfaghari said: "Oh for goodness sake. The show must go on for goodness sake. [It's] sad about Phillip Schofield, and Holly should stay."
We put the question to a vote, asking our readers if This Morning should be axed. Well over two-thirds of the 3,250 entries called for the show to be axed. Some said it was too 'toxic' to go on, others said it was 'past its sell-by date'.
One ECHO commenter said: "Let's face it, the TV company will change the name of the programme and give us two new presenters. Hopefully not Dermot and Alison."
Susan Bramhald suggested that a replacement was warranted. She said: "Myself I think it has run its time, and maybe [ITV should] find another daytime show to replace This Morning.
Rachel Hinksman said: "[It] should've been axed years ago. It's just gone rubbish now."
