They may have only spent one season together at Newcastle United, but Les Ferdinand has described his partnership with Alan Shearer as the "best" in his career.
Ferdinand arrived at St James' Park from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 1995 and scored 29 times in 44 games across all competitions in his debut season. He was named PFA Players' Player of the Year as Newcastle blew a 12-point lead to Manchester United in the Premier League title race.
He was joined by Shearer the following season and the pair developed a formidable attacking partnership during their solitary campaign together. Ferdinand scored 21 goals, while Shearer bagged 28 in his maiden season on Tyneside, as Newcastle finished runners-up to The Red Devils once again.

Ferdinand left Newcastle for Tottenham Hotspur where he would go onto partner Jurgen Klinsmann and later Teddy Sheringham, but it was his partnership with Shearer that he believes was the most successful.
"It was probably the best partnership I had," Les Ferdinand revealed on Sky Sports. "I was really fortunate to play with some great players: [Jurgen] Klinsmann, [Teddy] Sheringham, [Peter] Beardsley but the combination between Alan [Shearer] and myself worked really well - there’s a lot of people who thought it wouldn’t work.
"We were both used to being able to explore different parts of the field. The second year, Alan came in and I’d been used to playing in a two, we just said look we can make this work, we scored 49 goals in our one and only season together. You’d have to say it was a successful partnership.
"When I left QPR, I spoke to a couple of clubs, I spoke to him [Keegan] for five minutes and knew it was done. At the time, it was a period where a manager came in and said I’m going to gear this up to create for you, it was exactly what we did and the only shame is we didn’t win the league.
"There’s not a day that I wake up and don’t think we should’ve won the Premier League, certainly, in that first season."
